What possible evidence can theists claim that's true?
It's been said that the onus is on the Christian to prove God exists and that Christians refuse this responsibility.

"Prove that God doesn't exist" is a flawed argument when talking to a skeptic.
It's been said that the onus is on the Christian to prove God exists and that Christians refuse this responsibility.
The fact is that Christians try too hard to make the skeptic responsible for proving something they don't claim. Most atheists don't claim there is no God. Most claim the evidence for God isn't convincing enough for them.
It's not an affirmative argument and shouldn't be treated as such. They are really asking a question, and questions deserve answers.

To ask what proof there is for God's existence requires a much more thorough answer than I will give here, but I'll make this like a sign pointing in the direction of the answers.

You see, asking for proof that God exists is like asking for proof that anything exists, that even I exist.

You can't see me while looking at your computer screen. Even if I claim I exist in this post, you can still be skeptical. You can see that I've successfully run more than one Kickstarter campaign. You can see the products I created. You may even talk with people who have known me. (In fact, this post will carry even more meaning the day that I no longer live in this world.)
You see, the evidence is the creation. It is what is seen, what is heard, what is left behind, and the effects of the hand of the invisible God at work. All of creation cries out. Even the rocks.

But, for many, the fact that they can create questions causes them to reject many of the answers to their questions.
There are answers to the questions. The question is, will we accept the answers at face value and receive the life-giving weight that they carry?
On the issue of existence and understanding, I'll refrain from sharing jokes about horses and Descartes for everyone's sake here.
