Day 4: He Is Listening

And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

–1 John 5:14

Lord, I know you hear me. Help me to know your will that I might partner with you here on earth. I want to pray in accordance with your desires that you might truly hear me.

God Is Near

God is everywhere. There is nowhere we can go to escape His presence in the world. He is in the highest heights and the deepest depths. His presence assures us that He knows all things. He is not blind. He is not deaf. He is not simply all powerful. He is all knowing. He is always present. (Psalm 139:7-12)

All Who Call Upon His Name Will Be Saved

The Lord is always drawing those who don’t know Him unto Himself. He is always calling. While He predestined us, knowing who would be His, He yet still requires a response from us. Apart from response to Him, no man may know Him. This doesn’t undermine His sovereignty. It strengthens it, knowing full well those who would be His, who are His. The Bible is filled with story after story of God’s sovereignty and man’s response in that destiny. But, for us, in this temporary aspect of eternity, we need only declare Jesus as Lord with our mouths, and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead. In doing so, we become the righteousness of God in Him. God’s heart is toward us, and all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. (2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 10:9-13)

He Listens to Those Who Follow Him

God listens to those who have received Him. His ear is turned toward them. Our prayers do not disappear into a void of nothingness. Sometimes, we might feel that way. As my child grows frustrated that her requests aren’t addressed in the immediate or in the way in which she hopes, we too do this with God all too often. Our prayers do not go unheard or unanswered. But, do we trust Him? (John 9:31; 1 Peter 3:12; Psalm 66:17-20; Proverbs 15:29; James 5:16)

Lord, hear our prayers. We call out. Jesus. We need you. Jesus, you are Lord. Hear our prayers now Lord. We don’t always feel righteous, but you made us righteous by your blood. Jesus, thank you that I might enter boldly into your presence. Thank you for hearing me. I trust your timing and your ways. I trust you.
